Non-NHS Services

Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:

  • Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
  • Insurance claim forms
  • Passport signing
  • Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
  • Private sick notes
  • Vaccination certificates

The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.

Flu and Pneumonia Vaccinations

In accordance with Department of Health guidelines we recommend an influenza vaccination every year for patients over 65 years of age and patients between 18 and 64 years of age with chronic heart, lung or kidney disease, diabetics and residents of nursing homes. In addition, for people with these problems, there is a pneumonia vaccine available which can be given at the same time as the influenza vaccination. Flu vaccinations are available in October each year and we will be in touch when its time to book in.

Vaccinations and Immunisations

Children – Children will normally be called for appointments for routine vaccinations at our regular immunisation clinics. However, immunisations can be arranged at other times by appointment.

If you think your child may have missed any immunisations, please let us know, as it is important that children are fully protected. If you have any concerns over individual immunisations, the health visitor or practice sister will be happy to discuss them with you.

Adults – Routine vaccination and travel immunisations are carried out by appointment with the practice nurse.

Shared Care Drug Monitoring Service

The treatment of some diseases is increasingly reliant on drugs that require regular blood monitoring.

Chronic Illness Monitoring

We offer Diabetes, Epilepsy and Hypertension Monitoring. These appointments are to monitor treatment and to help patients gain a better understanding of their condition. Appointments can be given to suit.

Minor Injuries

Generally the ‘walking wounded’ will be dealt with by our practice sisters. Minor injuries are those that do not require immediate hospital admission.

Minor Surgery

The doctors perform many minor surgical procedures at the health centre, often avoiding the need for you to go to the hospital. Please make an appointment to see your doctor for referral to this service.

NHS Health Checks

The check is for people who are aged 40 to 74 who do not have any of the following pre-existing conditions:

  • heart disease
  • chronic kidney disease
  • diabetes
  • high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • atrial fibrillation
  • transient ischaemic attack
  • inherited high cholesterol (familial hypercholesterolemia)
  • heart failure
  • peripheral arterial disease
  • stroke
  • currently being prescribed statins to lower cholesterol
  • previous checks have found that you have a 20% or higher risk of getting cardiovascular disease over the next 10 years

You should have regular check-ups if you have one of these conditions. Your care team will be able to give you more information about this.

Physiotherapy First Service

The aim of these appointments are to save GP appointments for medical conditions; as a highly specialised physiotherapist we have a lot of experience in assessing and diagnosing problems with joints, muscles and bone. This will improve access for patients with musculoskeletal conditions. Patients seen by a GP for the same problem are unable to book into this service.

Contraceptive Services

We offer a comprehensive family planning service. Our nurses are trained and experienced in family planning procedures. We can provide advice and information on all methods of contraception including the prescription of the oral contraceptive pill, contraceptive injections, as well as the fitting of coils and implants.

Sometimes contraceptive advice can be given by phone and please book a telephone consultation with a nurse if you think that is appropriate.
